Football Academy 2010  -  01 Sep 2010
As a means of serving the surrounding community, Christ the Light Church are running a six-week football academy that is "free of charge" and which is open to boys and girls (in the younger age groups) within the specified age ranges shown below. This academy will allow the children who attend to learn and develop new skills, teamwork, social skills and discipline but most of all to have fun! Learning through 'play' and fun based drills is the central philosophy of the academy and its coaching staff.

Location, dates and age groups

All age groups will have six consecutive 1 hr and 15 minute sessions on Sunday mornings at Huntington Secondary School All Weather Pitch: October 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th, 31st and November 7th 2010. The age groups and session times are shown below:

5- 6 yrs: 9 - 10:15 am

7- 9 yrs: 9 - 10:15 am

10 - 12 yrs: 10:30 - 11:45 am (boys only)

13 - 15 yrs: 10:30 - 11:45 am (boys only)

At the coaches' discretion and after talking with parents, children may on occasion be moved into different age groups, due to ability and/ or size. Also, to ensure safety and quality of coaching, each age group will have a maximum of fifteen children and the two older age groups will be boys only.

Coaching staff

There are two coaches, Nick Watson and Graeme Law, who are both FA licensed coaches with advanced CRB disclosure. Nick currently teaches sport studies at York St John University, has coached children and youth for over ten years in England, America and Spain, and was the Founding Head Coach of La Manga Junior Football Academy (Spain). Graeme is an ex- professional footballer having played for York City and Dundee United, currently plays semi- professional football and has coached for the past three years at La Manga Junior Football Academy (Spain).

Booking a place for your child

Bookings will be on a 'first come first served' basis. However, we will be taking names and contact details on a 'reserve list' in case of drop- outs and as we plan to run this football academy again in 2011, so that we can offer those on this list first choice.
